What We Treat

01/04

Our Process

When you visit one of our PM&R physicians, you will undergo a detailed evaluation of your complaint and corresponding physical examination.

Sometimes, we may need further testing to determine the correct diagnosis.

Typically, physical medicine and rehabilitation optimizes conservative, non-operative measures when approaching injuries and diagnoses.

Surgical referral or management options may be part of the end discussion, but for a majority of musculoskeletal complaints, surgery is not the first choice.

02/04

Our Process

The process begins with an initial appointment, the length of which varies based on your condition.

More complex issues will require more time with your physician, especially if you have multiple musculoskeletal conditions.

03/04

Our Process

Our patient-centric approach means we conduct individualized tests and studies based on your physical examination. Tests may include:

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Digital X-Ray
  • Electromyograms (EMG) & Nerve Conduction Studies
  • Ultrasound
  • And Other Medical Technologies

04/04

Our Process

Throughout the treatment and recovery process, we focus on creating outcomes that maximize your functionality so you can return to your regular activities.

Our physicians will align their management recommendations with your goals.

Therefore, two people with the same diagnosis may undergo two different management plans.

How It Works

Treatment Options

Prescription Medications

Your physician may recommend over-the-counter or prescription medications to reduce pain, muscle spasm, inflammation, and more. This will depend on your specific needs, symptoms, and other factors surrounding your condition.

Pain Injections

Injections directly into the joint can help with acute pain. Based on your condition, response to treatment, and your physician’s recommendations, additional injections may be necessary. Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance offers ultrasound-guided injections to visualize the area of concern in real time and optimize your treatment’s effectiveness.

Nerve Pathology and Management

Nerve injuries require unique approaches to fully assess the presence and extent of injury. Two common, and often complementary, ways we evaluate nerves are through electrodiagnostic studies (nerve conduction studies and electromyograms) and ultrasound.

Stem Cell and PRP Treatments

Options such as stem cell injections or platelet-rich plasma can help repair worn or damaged tissue. This option works best if you are a younger patient with mild-to-moderate injuries.
