Accurate diagnosis from experienced professionals.

Many musculoskeletal conditions require diagnostic testing to ensure a correct diagnosis. When working on issues involving a disrupted nerve, one of those diagnostic tests we rely on at Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance is an electromyogram (EMG). EMGs can determine if your nerves and muscles respond properly to stimuli.

Our board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians and surgeons are considered among the top orthopedic providers in the Midwest.

Along with our Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and support staff, Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance physicians deliver the utmost level of dedicated care across a range of subspecialties.

While diverse in background and capabilities, the common thread that brings all of our team members together is our patient-centered approach. We’ve worked hard to build Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance with all the benefits of a large orthopedic collective, while maintaining the community impact and familiarity of an intimate, private-practice model.

What We Test For

01/04

Our Process

The process begins with an initial appointment, and the length varies based on your condition.

More complex issues will require more time with your physician, especially if you have multiple musculoskeletal conditions.

Our patient-centric approach means we conduct individualized tests and studies based on your physical examination.

This is when we will determine if an EMG is necessary to diagnose your condition.

02/04

Our Process

When performing an EMG, our physicians will insert an acupuncture-sized needle through the skin into the muscle.

These needles allow us to listen to the electrical response of the nerve to that muscle using a small hand-held device.

Our physicians will listen while your muscle is at rest, then they will ask you to flex (or activate) the muscle to make sure the nerves are firing properly.

03/04

Our Process

Once we have the results of your exams, we outline treatment options for your individual needs.

Throughout the treatment and recovery process, we focus on creating outcomes that maximize your functionality so you can return to your regular activities.

04/04

Our Process

Our physicians will align their management recommendations with your goals.

Therefore, two people with the same diagnosis may undergo two personalized management plans.
