Every story has a beginning, and KCOA’s story began with our initial three clinics: Dickson-Diveley Orthopedics, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Consultants, and Apex Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Dickson-Diveley Orthopedics
The first of the three initial clinics is Dickson-Diveley Orthopedics. This clinic was first founded in 1923, meaning that they’ve been helping people treat their orthopedic concerns for over a century. But that doesn’t mean that they’ve stayed stagnant for 100 years.
As we’ve said, there’s nothing that we value more than technological innovation and advancement. In many ways, you wouldn’t recognize the original Dickson-Diveley Orthopedics.
And yet, some things never change. We’ve still maintained our love for the profession, and our dedication to the patient remains unwavering. KCOA is proud to include this storied orthopedic institution.
Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Consultants
Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Consultants (OSMC) is all about the athletes. As excellent as sports can be to burn some calories and keep your cardiovascular system healthy, they’re also an easy way to hurt yourself.
If you’re not careful, then you could risk spraining a joint, tearing a ligament, or breaking a bone. Fortunately, the doctors at Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Consultants have always had all of the resources you need to get you back on the field, ready to compete.

Apex Orthopedics and Sports Medicine
Apex Orthopedics and Sports Medicine is another local institution that’s been helping people for decades. This clinic was founded in 1967 as Carondelet Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the commitment this team has for its patients has remained consistent over the years.

Each of the entities that composed the original KCOA had outstanding reputations for providing orthopedic care. Those reputations combined with sharing some unique core values and philosophies led to the formation of KCOA.

Remaining independent in our practice was another key driver for this merger in Kansas City. We believe that physicians working with their patients, without the influence of outside factors, make the best healthcare decisions.

We were proud to merge these three acclaimed orthopedic clinics to form KCAO, but that wasn’t the end of our mergers and growth in Kansas City. Another reason we’ve grown KCOA is to create improved communication and access to information for our patients.
