Matthew Kneidel, MD

Dr. Kneidel is exceptionally trained in both open and arthroscopic management of sports-related injuries of the foot and ankle, including but not limited to tendon repair procedures, ligament reconstructions or cartilage injuries. He has managed these issues in both recreational as well as professional athletes. Of course, some problems are more chronic and Dr. Kneidel also performs reconstructive procedures for deformities, including flatfoot, bunions, and hammertoes. He is trained in the management of arthritic conditions, including total ankle joint replacement and fusion procedures.

More About Dr. Kneidel
He hails from Wichita, KS. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in 1992 and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1997.
He completed residency training in orthopedics at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, KS. He then became fellowship trained in Foot and Ankle orthopedic surgery at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL under the tutelage of Dr. John Gould. At that time he co-authored a study on management of chronic achilles tendon pain published in the Foot and Ankle International. Prior to joining KCOA (formerly Apex Orthopedics and Sports Medicine) Dr. Kneidel was in private practice in Charleston, SC for 5 years. He is Board Certified in orthopedic surgery and is a member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society of long standing.
Dr. Kneidel is well versed in the management of a wide array of both acute and chronic foot and ankle issues. He takes pleasure in assisting his patients both young and old in managing their foot and ankle problems collaboratively, whether it be conservative through guiding his patients to therapy or the use of orthotics or bracing, or in some cases the optimal surgery.
Outside of Work
In his free time, Dr. Kneidel enjoys spending time with his two children. He is a lover of the arts and in particular music. He enjoys playing guitar, listening to records (yes, records), and seeing live music when possible and is proud to have passed this appreciation on to his children. He is an avid supporter of the local sports teams and loves to follow the Royals, Chiefs, Sporting KC, and the University of Kansas Jayhawks.
