Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance (KCOA) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Khadavi, MD RMSK, as the new President of The Orthobiologic Institute (TOBI). As a highly respected Sports Medicine doctor with extensive clinical, teaching, and research experience in orthobiologics, Dr. Khadavi’s leadership at TOBI marks a significant milestone in the field of regenerative medicine.
What is TOBI?
TOBI is the first Orthobiologics society and conference in the world and is recognized as the global leader in the growing field of Orthobiologics. TOBI’s annual symposium and workshops provide physicians and researchers with the latest evidence and techniques, taught by the leading minds in regenerative medicine. Dr. Khadavi is a great fit for this role because of his personal commitment and emphasis on staying at the forefront of medical knowledge, especially in an area with such rapidly growing evidence. He is particularly excited about Orthobiologics because of its ability to improve patient outcomes with low risk and short recovery times.
Dr. Khadavi’s Background
After teaching for several other national organizations, Dr. Khadavi’s journey with TOBI began in 2020, when he first spoke on their podium. Since then, he has been tasked with greater leadership roles within TOBI, including Director of all Workshops and TOBI board member. Now, as President, Dr. Khadavi looks to bring even more transformative advancements to the field of orthobiologics through fostering physician collaboration, promoting educational opportunities, and expanding our research programs.
At KCOA, where Dr. Khadavi serves as a conservative treatment expert, many of the physicians and surgeons already integrate orthobiologic treatments into their practices, either as standalone treatments or in combination with surgical interventions. This integration of cutting-edge research with clinical practice allows KCOA to deliver improved outcomes while minimizing risk and recovery times. KCOA’s quick adoption of new treatments is just one sign of their dedication to staying at the forefront of orthopedic care for their patients.
Dr. Khadavi’s expertise also extends beyond clinical practice. He serves as an Assistant Professor in the University of Missouri’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and directs the Musculoskeletal and Sports Rehabilitation Fellowship. As a team physician for the Kansas City Ballet and Sporting KC, he brings a wealth of practical, real-world experience to his leadership role at TOBI. His work in both academic and clinical settings exemplifies the type of “privademic” career he has built—one that merges the freedom of ideas and practice of a private clinic with the academically rigorous world of teaching and research.
TOBI Presidency Role
In his role as TOBI President, Dr. Khadavi is already focused on expanding the organization’s reach and impact. One of his key initiatives is turning TOBI into a non-profit entity, which will allow it to grow its educational and training programs for physicians around the world. By making these resources more accessible, Dr. Khadavi aims to foster greater collaboration among subspecialty physicians, particularly those in the musculoskeletal and orthopedic fields, who can benefit from the most up-to-date knowledge and advancements in orthobiologics.
The future of orthobiologics holds immense potential for both patients and healthcare providers. As research continues to uncover new applications and improve outcomes, orthobiologics will play an increasingly vital role in orthopedic treatments. Dr. Khadavi is enthusiastic about his role in leading TOBI during this period of rapid growth, stating that the institute’s board is comprised of some of the greatest minds in orthobiologics worldwide. Together, they will shape the future of the field, expanding both the scientific understanding and clinical applications of orthobiologic treatments.
What Does this Mean for KCOA?
For KCOA, Dr. Khadavi’s leadership role at TOBI means more than just accolades; it means tangible improvements in patient care. The advancements in orthobiologic treatments being developed at TOBI will further enhance the ability of KCOA physicians to provide state-of-the-art care with fewer risks and faster recovery times. This dual commitment to innovation and compassionate patient care positions KCOA and KCOI as leaders in the orthopedic community.
