More About Katie Macdonald, APRN

Initially, after graduating from nursing school, Katie worked on a busy medical / surgical unit, where she developed a strong foundation of nursing fundamentals.

Katie had the privilege of spending the summers in New Hampshire, working as a nurse at a residential children’s sports camp. By a complete twist of fate, she landed a job in the operating room. This is where Katie became interested in orthopedics while working as a circulating / scrub nurse on the orthopedic team at Saint Luke’s hospital. Eventually, she became the peri-operative coordinator, in the main operating room, at Saint Luke’s hospital. Being a coordinator required high-level thinking while juggling an endless number of variables. This challenge propelled her to apply for graduate school and pursue a career in advanced practice nursing. All of Katie’s experience and various nursing roles have allowed her to have a unique perspective of the “big picture,” which she is able to implement into her advanced nursing practice. While Katie may specialize in a certain part of the body, she always practices with a holistic approach.

Outside of Work

Katie is a proud mom! Her daughter enjoys a variety of sports and most weekends you can find Katie at one of her events. She is an avid cyclist, hiker, and nature lover. Katie recently purchased a gravel bicycle and intends to explore the Flint Hills of Kansas this year.  While Katie is not a Kansas native, she has fallen in love with the Kansas landscape. She spends many weekends hiking around the prairie and learning about native- grasses, finding interesting lizards, and taking in the picturesque scenery. Katie is also a lover of plants. Her family thinks she has too many, but she says one can never have too many plants!
