Your First Appointment with an Orthopedic Specialist
At KCOA, your first appointment will start with a thorough evaluation so we can understand your symptoms, the progression of your injury, and your goals for treatment. We will ask various questions to determine the severity of your injury and its impact on your lifestyle.
Your physician will then conduct a physical exam to assess your injury. Using a variety of tests, we will measure your strength, range of motion, flexibility, and more.
After gathering this information, your orthopedic specialist in Kansas City will determine if further diagnostic testing is necessary. In-clinic imaging at KCOA makes getting imaging (such as an X-ray) quick and convenient, and we have team members specifically trained to help obtain insurance authorization for additional imaging tests like an MRI when needed.
Once we have all the necessary information and test results, you and your provider will work together to create a treatment plan that matches your goals. We start with non-surgical treatments whenever possible, including physical therapy, rest and ice, injections, medications, casting and bracing, and/or regenerative medicine. We can treat many injuries with these non-surgical treatments.
However, if you are still experiencing pain after exhausting all non-operative treatments, we will discuss a more aggressive treatment. You will meet with one of our experienced orthopedic surgeons to discuss your treatment options.
We want you to feel fully informed and knowledgeable about the treatment process. If you have any questions in your journey to a pain-free life, don’t hesitate to contact us. Our team members are standing by, ready to assist you.
