Intracept Clinical Study Evaluates New, Minimally Invasive Procedure for Low Back Pain

The clinical study is evaluating the Intracept Procedure® – a minimally invasive procedure for the relief of chronic low back pain.

During the Intracept Procedure, doctors make a small (3-5mm) incision in the lower back. Following this, a specialized probe is advanced into the vertebrae and positioned at the precise location of the pain-sensing basivertebral nerve. Once positioned, the Intracept probe uses radiofrequency energy (heat) to disable the basivertebral nerve, rendering it unable to transmit pain signals.

As a board-certified spine surgeon, Dr. Koreckij’s ongoing commitment to evidence-based medicine and staying current in the latest treatments for spine diseases led to his involvement in the clinical study. When leaders in the field approached him about the opportunity to participate, he was eager to assist.

“The results from the first clinical trial with this treatment showed a significant relief of back pain, which was pivotal in getting FDA clearance for the treatment,” said Dr. Koreckij. “I am excited to see if those initial positive results can be corroborated in this confirmatory clinical trial.”

Patients who qualify and choose to participate will receive all study-related care at no cost. This includes the Intracept Procedure, as well as any examinations or visits associated with the study.
