Leawood, Kan. – October 20, 2016 – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics is pleased to announce our support for Susan G. Komen’s goal of reducing the nation’s 40,000 breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the next 10 years.

Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics has pledged to sponsor Rock the Ribbon II: A Concert Celebrating Strength and Survivorship, hosted by Susan G. Komen® Greater Kansas City. Event activities will include a live concert by Barenaked Ladies, a private cocktail reception, a silent auction and live bidding—all designed to raise funds that will help save lives in Kansas City and advance the effort to end breast cancer forever.

“We are proud to join the cause to support Susan G. Komen and our local community,” said
Brian J. Divelbiss, M.D., CEO of Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics. “Our physicians and staff specialize in orthopedics, but we stand together with all healthcare providers in the effort to make sure people have access to the care they need to live healthy lives.”

National statistics show that one in every eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. In the Kansas City community, on average, four women receive a breast cancer diagnosis every single day of the year, according to Komen Kansas City. The local chapter also reports that 20 percent of women in the Greater Kansas City area are not getting regular mammograms—an important form of defense in the fight against breast cancer.

Last month, when Susan J. Komen announced its goal of reducing breast cancer deaths by half over the next decade, the organization’s president and CEO stated that success lies in “improving access to quality and timely cancer care for the underserved and enhancing Komen’s research focus on lethal breast cancers.” Encouraging companies, groups and individuals to engage as partners for events like Rock the Ribbon is one way Susan G. Komen works with local communities toward meeting the goal.

The inaugural Rock the Ribbon event, held in late 2015, raised more than $300,000 for breast cancer education, free and low-cost screenings, treatment services, and cutting-edge research. Through proceeds from the upcoming 2017 event, Komen Kansas City plans to continue its comprehensive battle against breast cancer.

Rock the Ribbon II will take place January 13, 2017, at Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland in Kansas City, Mo. Tickets can be purchased through Komen Kansas City or directly through the event venue.
