Community Leaders Through Corporate Philanthropy in Kansas City

Inside our Practice / October 25, 2022

Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance started as a merger between 3 leading orthopedic clinics in the area——APEX Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Dickson-Diveley Orthopedics, and Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Consultants—combining for over 140 years of orthopedic care and service for our KC community.

All 3 clinics had deep roots in the area, having served thousands of local patients and families in that time. Beyond patients, many staff members at these locations are also native Kansas Citians and long-time residents of the area.

As we continue into this new chapter post-merger, the staff at KCOA is rising to the occasion.  Community involvement has long been a part of the mission of the 3 clinics individually. One of the primary goals for the merger was to become even more involved in the communities we serve.

With more resources available, the team at KCOA wants to make a greater charitable impact for the community that has allowed us to thrive. Read on to learn about our civic engagement through our corporate philanthropy in Kansas City!

The Importance of Community Involvement

KCOA currently operates 6 clinics in the communities of Kansas City, Merriam, Leawood, Overland Park, Blue Springs, and Belton. But our impact extends far beyond these individual cities. Each physician-owner of KCOA identifies the importance of being engaged in the community. Our staff also embraces this vision of giving back to our community members in need.

We have been involved with charitable acts and corporate philanthropy in Kansas City for decades. The merger allows us to move this philosophy of giving forward in more meaningful ways. Providing great orthopedic care will always be our primary mission. But we recognize we can accomplish just as much outside the walls of our clinics that may have a greater overall impact on the “health” of our community.

We would also be remiss if we didn’t mention how grateful we are to be in the position to give back to the community. We have been embraced by people from all walks of life across the Kansas City area. The patients and families we’ve had the opportunity to impact in a positive way has led to our success, growth and additional opportunities to give back to our community.

The people that visit our clinics are more than just our patients. They are our friends, our families, and our neighbors. Doing right by them and helping everyone we encounter live happier, healthier lives is what KCOA is all about.

KCOA’s Community Involvement

Our merger brought along a realization that KCOA and its physician-owners need a more focused, organized effort in order to fulfill the growing needs of the Kansas City metro area.

Part of this effort is the formation of our Charitable Committee, which focuses on finding and establishing partnerships with different charitable organizations throughout the region. They also help with organizing events and opportunities for employees to volunteer in Kansas City.

This Charitable Committee is composed of team members throughout the organization- physicians, providers, support staff, managers and executives- to ensure that decisions represent all of KCOA.

To date, we have participated in efforts to support all of the following local organizations in the  Kansas City area:

Our individual physicians and team members have a long track record of providing pro bono healthcare services for patients in need from across the Kansas City area. We achieve this work through partnerships with our friends and colleagues in the delivery of orthopedic services at Saint Luke’s Hospital, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, and Kansas City Orthopedic Institute.

Team members that support our providers also have a history of giving and volunteering, at events throughout the area. Outside of financial giving, our goal is to offer our staff members every opportunity to serve their community by giving of their time and talents. Individuals have the freedom to uplift the causes that are important to them and feel supported by the entire KCOA team.

Our efforts are ongoing and we are constantly looking for new opportunities to support our community, organizations, or individuals in need. If you have an opportunity you would like for us to consider, please reach out to us at info@kcorthoalliance.com.

How Do I Get Involved With KCOA?

KCOA commits to engaging in corporate philanthropy year-round throughout the Kansas City area and we are always interested in hearing from organizations who want to partner with us.

It is important to note that any entities interested in partnering with KCOA should contact us earlier in the year, if possible. This allows our Charitable Committee and our physician-owners to better budget and plan our next fiscal year.

If you are interested in partnering with KCOA for a charitable event—or just want to get the word out about your organization and how people can help—we would love to hear from you! We welcome every interested entity to reach out to our Charitable Committee through info@kcorthoalliance.com to begin the process.

Plans for the Future

Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance is proud of our entire staff for their continued involvement within the community. As we move into the future, our long-term goals for community involvement and corporate philanthropy in Kansas City will only continue to expand.

One of our primary goals moving forward is to establish our very own foundation in order to greater serve the healthcare needs of people across Kansas City. This includes working with our healthcare partners and vendors to achieve greater impact.

One of the focuses of this proposed KCOA Foundation will be to work with non-profit organizations supporting healthcare-related causes. Many organizations across our region operate adjacent to healthcare organizations and provide valuable services and support to our community members. We recognize that these entities and many others, need assistance as well.

KCOA understands that by improving the circumstances of area residents we not only can improve their health individually, but strengthen our community as a whole.

More About KCOA

Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance is the largest independent, physician-owned orthopedic specialty clinic in the Kansas City region. The heart of our organization has always been our patients and their loved ones, and everything we do centers around their long-term health and wellbeing.

We believe that putting our patients and our communities first is a difference-maker for KCOA. With over 140 combined years of experience in Kansas City, we have a long history of providing unmatched care to the people we serve. Combining the latest technology and the most advanced techniques, we help patients experience the joys of living a pain-free lifestyle.

Whether we are working with patients or working within the communities we serve, KCOA has 3 core pillars that guide our entire practice:

Customer Service

Every person that steps into one of our 6 clinics across the Kansas City area deserves to be treated to the highest level of service. Whether you’re a patient, a family member, a friend, or just a visitor, our goal is to ensure that everyone has a top-notch experience. Our staff will gladly help with any questions or suggestions you may have.

Communication

Communication is one of the most essential tools for building trust. Both when serving patients and serving our community, we make it a point to consistently communicate with all involved parties through every step of the process. Communication in this case means actively listening to others and understanding their needs, goals, and expectations. By doing this, both our staff members and those they serve can work together and achieve a successful outcome.

Care

Care can mean many things to many different people. At KCOA, care means doing everything we possibly can to serve our patients and the communities throughout this region. We go above and beyond to ensure that our team does everything in their power to ensure that people feel safe and protected. This helps build trust and confidence while ensuring people have their needs met at every interaction.
