The robotic-arm assisted procedure has been available at Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics for partial knee replacement and total knee replacement since December 2018 and for total hip replacement since August 2019. With the Mako system, surgeons can carefully remove damaged bone and cartilage before the joint implant is inserted. After customizing a surgical plan for the patient, the surgeon precisely guides the robotic arm, aligns the components of the implant, and observes the body’s tiniest details through 3-D images while sitting at a console in the operating room.
